Caregivers must understand HIPAA Laws and their impact on caregiving. If HIPAA laws are ignored, there are hefty fines; clients can sue the company and caregivers if they feel they have been harmed by a failure to comply. Broken HIPAA laws can even result in a provider being jailed. Although caregivers may have received some basic training on HIPAA during the training process, it is beneficial to review HIPAA every year, as laws can change and new standards may be introduced. It is up to providers to update their training on any changes.
