This 1.5-credit class is the third in a Series on Wellbeing for Clients and Caregivers. Class 3 is titled " Mobility, Lifting, Transfers, and Injury Prevention. Many tasks that caregivers perform on the job involve lifting, supporting, and transferring clients, and if not done carefully, they can cause significant back injuries or strains. Learning how to strengthen the core, back, and legs is crucial for preventing injuries.
Senior Clients can get into the habit of sitting for many hours a day. Over time, this results in the weakening of the muscles that affect getting in and out of a chair, ambulating, or using the bathroom safely and independently. Needing someone to help get out of a chair limits the client's independence and ability to participate in activities around them. This class will offer ideas that strengthen muscles, provide greater independence, and enhance the client's sense of self-worth.
